Lily Allen – LDN (2006 7″ Single)

About this Record

Released in September 2006 on Regal Recordings (an imprint of EMI), “LDN” was the infectious second single from British pop icon Lily Allen’s breakthrough debut album, Alright, Still. Built around a jaunty, sun-dappled calypso/reggae sample of Tommy McCook & The Supersonics’ “Reggae Merengue” (credited to Duke Reid), the song famously juxtaposes a cheerful, bouncy melody with sharp, cynical vignettes of everyday street life in London. The B-side features “Nan You’re a Window Shopper”, Allen’s hilarious, cheeky parody of 50 Cent’s “Window Shopper”.

This European pressing comes as a dinked large-hole 7-inch 45 RPM single housed in a classic black die-cut sleeve adorned with the distinctive blue title hype sticker. Produced by Future Cut, this single captures the quintessential mid-2000s UK pop renaissance driven by Allen’s sharp wit and vibrant sound system influences.

(Wife’s thought: I’m certainly nowhere near “grandma” age, but I’m definitely here window-shopping and poking fun at his record habit.)
