ABOUT

What is PICO VINYL?

PICO VINYL is a personal record archive born out of sheer domestic necessity.

Our household is currently being overwhelmed by my spouse’s ever-expanding vinyl collection—invading the living room, spilling into the hallways, and quietly encroaching on my personal workspace.

This website serves two purposes:

  1. To document and archive every single 7″ single and 12″ LP currently occupying our living space.
  2. To monetize and fund a dedicated external storage unit—so I can eventually reclaim my room.

The Name “PICO” & The Irony

Where did the name “PICO” come from?

Ironically enough, it traces back to a song my husband once played in our room: I LOVE YOU by PICO. It was one of the very few tracks that made me think, “Wow, this is actually a fantastic song.”

(Though to be completely honest, he was playing it on CD at the time.)

Still, I remember spotting the vinyl version in our house before. If I keep diligently pulling records off the shelves one by one to photograph them for this blog, that elusive PICO LP is bound to surface eventually.

Naming a project dedicated to banishing vinyl from our living space after a track called I LOVE YOU? Call it the ultimate domestic irony.

And what irritates me most is his infuriating false modesty. He always insists, “I’m not really an obsessive geek—there are way crazier collectors out there.”

Excuse me? Look at our living room. You are 100% one of them.

To make matters worse, that “collector gene” was faithfully passed down to our child. Now, growing piles of Pokémon merchandise are multiplying in every corner of the house. I am officially surrounded by obsessive collectors on all fronts.

Give me a break.

The Scope of the Collection (An Endless Undertaking)

The Scope of the Collection (An Endless Undertaking)
To give a realistic sense of scale: we currently have over 3,000 LPs packed into roughly 54 heavy storage boxes—8 stacked in my room, 16 lining the hallway, and at least 30 taking over the living room.
And that’s not even counting whatever is lurking inside his personal room, nor the countless 7″ singles we haven’t dared to tally up yet.
All told, it’s nearly a metric ton of vinyl.
Cataloging them one by one onto Discogs and this site will likely take several years, if not a solid decade. Consider this a lifelong archiving journey.
(One we hope finishes before our apartment floor finally gives out.)

The Concept: Obsession vs. Reality

Every record featured on this archive presents two contrasting viewpoints:

  • The Record Details & Context: In-depth musical background, pressing information, and the historical context behind the track (culled straight from my husband’s enthusiastic lectures and his collection notes).
  • The Living Space Reality (Wife): My honest, unfiltered reactions regarding where the record was found invading the house, how much dust it collects, and the domestic cost of its existence.

Whether you are a fellow collector, a music lover, or someone whose partner also buys too many records: welcome to our archive. Every page view brings us one step closer to that storage unit.

A Quick Note on Expertise (or Lack Thereof)

I am not a musicologist, a seasoned collector, or an audio purist. I am simply a bewildered observer documenting the physical artifacts that have quietly taken over our household.

The pressing details, matrix runouts, and track notes featured here are compiled purely through Discogs, public archives, and my own amateur sleuthing. While I do my best to keep the data accurate, vinyl variations are endless, and mistakes will inevitably happen.

If you spot a mislabeled matrix or an incorrect pressing variation, feel free to let me know—kindly. Just keep in mind that I care far more about the visual charm of the labels (and reclaiming our living space) than debating first-press matrix runouts.
