Hideki Kaji – La Boum ~My Boom Is Me~ (2007 7″ Single)

About this Record

Known affectionately as the ‘Prince of Shibuya-kei’, Hideki Kaji (formerly of the influential indie pop outfit Bridge) has long been a defining figure in Japan’s vibrant 1990s and 2000s neo-acoustic and guitar pop scenes. Originally released in 1997 as his iconic signature anthem, La Boum ~My Boom Is Me~ captures quintessential breezy Shibuya-kei optimism, infectious brass lines, and catchy melodic hooks.

This coveted 2007 limited Japanese 7-inch pressing was released through felicity (cap-69 / HIMTK-1002) and distributed by Jet Set. Side A features an energetic, party-starting remix by Kyoto-based beatmaker and DJ HALFBY (HALFBY Sound of momo’s chain REMIX), adding sampledelic cut-up beats while preserving the track’s effervescent charm. Side B retains the beloved original recording, making this 45 an essential club-friendly DJ tool for Japanese indie pop and Shibuya-kei collectors.

「カジくんずっと聴いてたな。このレコードを買いにディスクユニオンに行って、ついでに箱を漁って、紹介しているこの前後のレコードも買ったんだと思う。」

(Wife’s thought: I’ve been listening to Kaji-kun for ages. I’m pretty sure he went to Disk Union specifically for this single, started digging through the crates on the side, and ended up buying all the other records featured before and after this one too.)
