Family Four Singers – Waltzing On The Waves (1976 LP)

About this Record

An extraordinary piece of mid-1970s maritime pop memorabilia, Waltzing On The Waves is a promotional souvenir gatefold LP by Sweden’s beloved vocal pop ensemble, Family Four Singers (led by Bernt Öst of Melodifestivalen and Eurovision fame). Commissioned exclusively for the Swedish shipping company Tor Line, this 1976 custom pressing was sold and distributed aboard their flagship cruise ferries—most notably the grand cruise-ferry MS Tor Scandinavia, which entered service that very year and is prominently showcased across the inside gatefold.

Musically, the album offers a warm, breezy blend of breezy 1970s sunshine pop, light disco/schlager harmonies, and acoustic Swedish folk arrangements, featuring songwriting contributions from British-Swedish musician Dougie Lawton and arrangements by Bernt Öst. Pressed on the private imprint E.MANN (catalog number EMLP 1101) with rights managed by NCB, this release sits squarely in the sweet spot between Scandinavian private press novelty and top-tier vocal pop craftsmanship.
