About this Record
This special edition of Freddie Gibbs & Madlib’s modern hip-hop masterpiece Piñata reimagines the critically acclaimed album as a vintage 1974 Blaxploitation film soundtrack. Released on Madlib Invazion (catalog number MMS-041), the artwork features custom retro illustrations, classic film poster typography, and pseudo-1974 copyright notices that pay homage to 1970s cinema aesthetics and soul/funk vinyl heritage.
Musically, Madlib’s dense, crate-dug soul and jazz samples provide the perfect gritty backdrop for Freddie Gibbs’ intricate, razor-sharp street narratives. This single-LP pressing presents the entire landmark project in a single disc format housed in a stunning homage sleeve.
