About this Record
Released in 1982 on Polydor (7DX 1180), “Heartbreak Taiyouzoku” (ハートブレイク太陽族) is the infamous debut single by the space-themed Japanese idol trio STARBOW (宇宙三銃士 スターボー). Produced during the height of the 1980s Japanese techno-pop boom, the track features music and arrangement by Yellow Magic Orchestra’s Haruomi Hosono with lyrics by legendary lyricist Takashi Matsumoto.
With its futuristic space-suit costumes, robotically altered vocoder vocals, and signature Hosono synth-basslines, this 7″ single is a highly sought-after cult classic among collectors of Japanese electronic music, synth-pop, and vintage kayōkyoku.
