About this Record
Hailing from Wolverhampton, England, The Montanas were a standout pop-harmony group of the late 1960s beat and mod scene. Released in late 1967 in the United States on the red-white-and-blue tri-color Independence imprint (licensed from Pye Records in the UK), “You’ve Got to Be Loved” stands as one of their most celebrated tracks. Masterminded and produced by legendary British producer and songwriter Tony Hatch alongside Jackie Trent, the A-side is an infectious slice of upbeat sunshine pop with a driving beat and brass-infused punch that has long garnered attention from Northern Soul and mod collectors alike. The flip side, “Difference of Opinion”, penned by band members Terry Rowley and Jake Allen, showcases tighter garage-leaning pop sensibilities.

「愛されなきゃ」。なんだか銀杏BOYZの曲名みたい。時代も国も違うのに、切実な叫びってどこか似るものですね。
(Wife’s thought: “You’ve Got to Be Loved.” It honestly reminds me of Ging Nang BOYZ—that raw, desperate, pure cry for love across the decades.)
