Hagood Hardy and The Montage – Just A Little Lovin’ / I’ll Take Love (1971 7″ Single)

About this Record

Renowned Canadian composer, pianist, and vibraphonist Hagood Hardy is best remembered for his lush crossover arrangements and timeless instrumental hits. In the early 1970s, Hardy formed The Montage, blending breezy sunshine pop, easy-listening jazz, and vocal harmonies. Arranged by Chuck Sagle and released on Polydor Canada (bearing the distinctive MAPL Canadian Content logo), this 7-inch single showcases Hardy’s sophisticated melodic touch.

The A-side features a smooth rendition of the classic Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil song “Just A Little Lovin’ (Early In The Morning),” while the B-side presents “I’ll Take Love,” penned by Gary Knight and Gene Allan. Pressed at 45 RPM stereo, this single is a wonderful artifact of early 1970s Canadian soft-pop and jazz-lounge production.

「1971年の曲らしいけれど、どこか『バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー』のカフェやダイナーで流れていそうな、甘酸っぱくて懐かしい空気感があります。」

(Wife’s thought: Although this track was released in 1971, it carries that sweet, nostalgic vibe—almost like something you’d hear playing in the background of the diner in Back to the Future.)
