Marina Watanabe – Birthday Boy (7″ Single)

About this Record

An elusive Shibuya-kei vinyl grail, this 7-inch single features Marina Watanabe’s beloved classic Birthday Boy (バースデイ・ボーイ), famously written, arranged, and produced by Kenji Ozawa (Flipper’s Guitar) in 1992. While the original release in Japan arrived primarily on 8cm mini-CD during the height of the CD era, club DJs and Shibuya-kei collectors clamored for a playable 45/33 RPM vinyl version. This center label features an homage to the vintage radiating Epic Records logo alongside a typewriter font and a charming cartoon illustration, accompanied by a dedicated cue slip noting BOTH SIDES OF THIS RECORD ARE 33R.P.M. Highly sought-after among Japanese indie-pop and 90s J-pop collectors for dancefloor sets.

(Wife’s thought: In the end, they each married someone else. Still love them both, though. That was the soundtrack to our youth.)
