About this Record
Fronted by the charismatic and bubbly Clare Grogan, Scottish new wave outfit Altered Images exploded into international acclaim with their infectious 1981 smash hit Happy Birthday. Produced by Martin Rushent (renowned for his iconic synth-pop production work with The Human League), the track blends sharp post-punk rhythm guitars with bright, buoyant new wave pop melodies and Grogan’s unmistakable, playful vocal delivery.
This Japanese 7-inch single release on Epic/Sony (Cat. No. 07・5P-172) comes housed in a distinctive Japanese picture insert featuring the classic birthday party photography and Japanese promotional commentary highlighting their soaring popularity in the UK music scene. As an authentic vintage 1981 Japanese pressing, it remains an essential, cheerful artifact of early 1980s British new wave and indie-pop history for collectors and DJs alike.
